Second grade worksheets, with regrouping done properly

Second grade is the regrouping year. Numbers get to 100 and beyond, carrying and borrowing arrive, and multiplication shows up as rows and columns before it ever shows up as a times table. The column sheets here leave real space above and below the problem, because that is where the carried digit goes.

What Grade 2 is working on
  • Two-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping, set out in columns
  • Hundreds, tens and ones, and numbers to 1,000
  • Arrays and the first multiplication facts, 0 to 5
  • Counting mixed coins and writing the total
  • Telling time to five minutes, and drawing the hands yourself
  • Weekly spelling lists, syllables, and longer written answers

Column layouts are a layout problem, not a math problem

Most free two-digit worksheets print the problems too close together, so the child writes the carried 1 on top of the row above and then can't read their own work. The column addition and subtraction sheets here size each problem's cell to leave a clear carry row above the top number and a clear answer row under the rule.

Four problems per row, twelve per page at everyday spacing. It looks emptier than a typical worksheet. It is emptier on purpose.

Arrays before times tables

A second grader who has drawn 4 rows of 6 and counted 24 understands what 4 × 6 means. A second grader who has only chanted the six times table has memorised a sound. Both are useful, and the order matters: the array sheets come first, and the multiplication sheets are deliberately capped at the 0–5 facts for Grade 2 no matter which difficulty you pick.

That cap is enforced in the generator, not in the copy. Setting a Grade 2 multiplication sheet to the hardest difficulty gives you harder arrangements of the same small facts, not the twelve times table.

Grade 2 questions

Do the two-digit sheets guarantee regrouping?

The gentle setting avoids it, and the harder settings include it. Column subtraction never produces a negative answer at any grade.

Can I use my child's own spelling list?

Yes — that is what the spelling generators are for. Paste this week's words and get a test sheet, missing letters, a scramble, a word search or an interlocking crossword from those exact words.

Is second grade too early for multiplication?

No, as long as it stays inside the 0–5 facts and starts with arrays. That is exactly how these sheets are bounded.
