Usually not the new material. It is the facts underneath it — a child who is unsure of 7 × 8 will get long division wrong in a way that looks like they do not understand long division. The fastest diagnostic is a single dense page of mixed multiplication facts and a stopwatch.
If that page is slow or scrappy, the useful practice for the next fortnight is Grade 3 fact drills, not Grade 5 procedures. Setting the grade lower on this site is a feature, not an admission.
The story-starter sheets at this level give an open prompt, no helper words, and ruled lines all the way to the bottom of the sheet. A writing page with a blank lower third quietly tells a child that a short answer is expected, and they will oblige.
Ask for several pages and each one carries a different prompt, so a week of writing comes out of one download. Every prompt is fixed text somebody wrote, not output from a language model.
Is there anything above Grade 5?
Not yet. The challenge setting at Grade 5 stretches past grade level — sums to 10,000 and facts to 12 — which covers most of what a strong fifth grader needs before middle school.
Can my child use these to revise for a test?
That is the best use of them. Pick the skill being tested, generate a dense page, mark it against the key, then generate a fresh page of the same shape a day later.
